Interview 1

Interviews in general are the worst (to me) and my first experience in long time was just as bad.

I had received a recommendation from a professor for a Ad ops position. (Advertising operations). Of course I was excited! I was flattered by the recommendation and very appreciative to be considered.

Fast forward to the day of the interview...

Firstly I was not as earlier as I had wanted to be or should have been. Strike 1 for me.  I did make it right on time but none the less I prefer and know that it’s best to be there 15 min before.

Once the interview began, I was flustered due to the time very much off my game. But the questions started after pleasant greetings intros.

As the ball rolled, one comment from the interviewer really threw me for a loop. She had said ‘I do not see you working in Ad Ops...’

I was shocked. Thrown back and it really shook my confidence. Of course I had to defend my interest in data and dashboards. But again she mentioned she still didn’t see me in ad ops.

I didn’t know how else to defend myself. But accepted what she had to say and replied (the third time she said it) that I understand where she was coming from.

Once the interview concluded again with the pleasantries and goodbyes, I got into my Uber, with the feeling of utter defeat. Not a good first run for an interview but an experience.

Because in reality, I don’t believe that job was for me, and I really don’t think it was a good match. BUT THAT IS OKAY! It just means there’s another job out there I need to tackle that’s more up my alley.
